Beginnings

I announced a little while ago that I was making a change in my life. Over the past month-and-a-bit, I’ve been talking with many people and deciding where I want to spend the next stage of my career.

I’m delighted to announce that I’ve accepted a position working at Human Made. I’ve been hearing great things about Human Made for a long time, and, after talking to Tom, Joe and Noel, decided they’d be a fantastic fit.

In my day-to-day work at Human Made, I’ll be working on both client work as well as products, such as happytables. In fact, I’ve already begun shipping code, and had my first deploy last week (along with my first broken deploy, and my first scramble-to-fix-the-fatal-errors). I also shipped a cool little timezone widget that shows exactly what time of day it is for the humans that compose Human Made:

I’m looking forward to seeing where this change takes me. If the first week is any indication, I definitely made the right choice.

In other news, I can’t resist linking to a great piece of music by a famous French duo, that seems at least somewhat relevant:

  1. Congrats on your new role with Human Made Ryan! 🙂

I admire not only HMs work but also their commitment to giving back to the WordPress community. The mix of client work and products will definitely keep you on your toes!

Nothing wrong with shipping something that’s broken and fixing it quickly. If you haven’t already read ‘A Year Without Pants’ then definitely have a read because shipping quickly and often is pretty much a given for the WP.com team!

P.S. The timezone which is cool!

  2. Awesome news Ryan, I hope you’ll be happy there and still find time for your pet projects such as Requests 😉

Very cool widget by the way, so neat to see what’s the time for the rest of your team. Publish it!

  3. Congrats! I’m looking forward to seeing the work y’all produce now that you’re on the team!

+1 to publishing code for the widget. That would be extremely handy for any distributed team!

  4. Hey Ryan,

A huge congrats! Human Made certainly have an excellent reputation and I can only imagine it must be a fantastic place to work. Well done! Of course they’re winning too in getting you. We all win! 🙂

Of course, now that you have a ‘real job’, I’m expecting you to man up and finally talk at a WordCamp. No more excuses… 😉

  5. I don’t think you could go wrong with Human Made. I’ve always admired your work, and theirs. And your work on API with Rachel Baker is the game changer in how serious app developers are visualizing the use of WordPress. Rest API must be great because only something that innovative can make the WP uppityups do a hyena dance 🙂

    Good luck forward.
